Posted February 25, 2014 · How weatherproof is PLA. From what i've read it seems that the main problem for PLA is heat. If exposed to the sun a black object might begin to 'melt' and loose its form. Other than that the biodegradability of PLA won't occur in natural conditions.
We offer a selection of frame grade acrylic sheets ranging from OP3 UV-filtering, P99 non-glare, and OP3 UV-filtering with P99 non-glare. All of our frame grade variations are half the weight and more impact resistant than glass, while meeting the standards of the most demanding framing applications.
Polycarbonate is commonly used in eye protection, as well as in other projectile-resistant viewing and lighting applications that would normally indicate the use of glass, but require much higher impact-resistance. Polycarbonate lenses also protect the eye from UV light.
Polyester is different. It is a family of plastics that share a similar structure of an ester between two binding R-groups. Because the R-groups are different between each plastic, they have different characteristics; however, the overall performance of these plastics compared to polypropylene is much greater concerning UV resistance.
This product is also available with an abrasion and chemical resistant coating upon request. ePlastics® stocks UV Filtering plexiglass in 1/8" and 1/4" thickness for protecting fine art and building custom museum vitrines.
